Data Networking and Architecture Team
The Data Networking and Architecture Team engineers and manages the physical infrastructures, which deliver telephony and data networking services to the LSU community.

Data Networking and Architecture is comprised of three groups: Network Engineering and Architecture, Network Facilities, and Technical Architecture and Network Construction. Each group is responsible for different components of the LSU network and telephony apparatus.


Network Engineering and Architecture (NEA)
NEA is responsible for the architecture, design, installation, and maintenance of the data network infrastructure of the LSU A&M campus. This includes access layer switches, distribution layer switches, core switches, firewalls, border routers, wireless controllers, wireless access points, and other devices involved in the delivery of wired and wireless networking services. The group also manages network authentication services and security policy implementation as they apply to network devices. All unresolved network incidents are escalated to the NEA group.


Network Facilities (NINF)
NINF is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all outdoor plant copper wiring, fiber cabling, conduit banks, and communications manholes. The team also designs, installs, and maintains all indoor plant fiber optic cabling. NINF connects networking devices by deploying and monitoring circuits with fiber optic cabling.

The managers and senior analysts of NINF and TANC are responsible for maintaining and developing the UNI Construction Requirements, ensuring their technological relevancy and timely applications.


Technical Architecture and Network Construction (TANC)
TANC is responsible for all indoor plant copper wiring and access layer switching. The team ensures any architectural plans for new construction or renovations produced by Facility Services and Planning Development  include provisions telephony, wired, and wireless networking and meet the construction standards UNI has developed to insure consistent delivery of these services.

TANC is responsible for the installation of Category 6 communications cables on the A&M campus and the configuration and installation of all access layer switches deployed in IDF/MDF closets. The team also manually installs wireless access points and monitors active network ports.  

 

Scheduled Maintenance

The Data Networking and Architecture Team reserves the hours between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Wednesdays to perform scheduled maintenance and upgrades to the network. The team will notify the departments through Network Contacts of any emergency maintenance that must be performed outside this window. Departments which have critical need for the network during the reserved window should coordinate with their deans and vice chancellors to notify UNI in advance. However, you are discouraged from scheduling critical functions within this window.
