Online Graduate Certificate in Analytics

The Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems offers an online graduate certificate in analytics. The purpose of this certificate is to respond to the need for retraining professionals, scientists, and researchers in the use of big data and to provide credentials for having completed a set of related courses.

This certificate provides working professionals with the skills needed to understand and use available technology to gain insights into data. The objective of this new certificate program is to train non-traditional students, enhancing their career opportunities and increasing their productivity in industry and government​.

A Graduate Certificate in Analytics can be obtained by earning a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the four analytics courses (12 hours) listed below. Each class is taught online for seven weeks and earns three credit hours. While there are no prerequisites to these courses, admission to the graduate school is required and an introductory course in statistics and information systems is recommended before enrolling in the course sequence.

Certificate cost is $832 per credit hour (including university fees).

First Fall ISDS 7301 Analytics I 
Introduction to analytics; use of big data in business; value proposition of data in business; data sources; storage and retrieval of data in business; descriptive analytics for business; business intelligence tools; dashboards in business.
Second Fall ISDS 7302 Analytics II 
Predictive analytics in business; business cases in predictive analytics; data mining use in business; industry solutions for predictive analytics.
​First Spring ISDS 7303 Analytics III
Prescriptive analytics in business; use of optimization techniques in business; use of simulation to assesses complex models; business cases.
Second Spring ISDS 7990 Project
Pass-fail grading. Special topics in statistics and quantitative methods.

  • Choose your state, select "Information Systems and Decision Sciences - Analytics - Certificate (Online)", and select your semester to begin.

Requirement Description
Entry date: Indicate First Fall 2019 for the semester of admission. Students are admitted for the fall semester ONLY.​
​Deadlines: Application deadline: July 29, 2019
Registration & payment deadline: August 19, 2019
Last day to add classes: August 30, 2019
​Application fee: The non-refundable application fee is $50 for U.S. citizens and $70 for all other applicants.
Personal information: Name, address, phone number, email, DOB, etc.
​Academic history: ​A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or its foreign equivalent with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on all undergraduate and graduate work already completed. You must provide transcripts for all of the colleges you have attended (regardless of degree completion) and upload copies with your application. Only admitted applicants will be required to send one sealed copy of official transcripts from EACH college and university attended, issued by the institution directly to:

Recommendations: Contact information for three academic and/or professional references. 
Statement of purpose: ​One page statement of how analytics fits into your short and long-term career goals.
Resume: Include a current resume or curriculum vitae.
​Entrance exam: If you do not meet the 3.0 GPA requirement and have less than 2 years relevant work experience, please submit either a GRE or GMAT test score.
Official test scores can be submitted using institution code 6373.
