The BEC is divided into two wings – Undergraduate Wing and Graduate Wing. Each wing houses ten classrooms ranging from 20, 40, 60, and 120-seat rooms. The classrooms are radial and case-style tiered designed for discussion and learning. All classrooms are equipped with a desktop computer, microphone, podium, dimmable lights, auto-shades, whiteboard, projector and the latest audio-visual technologies.
The BEC has 12 smaller rooms suited for studying, meetings, and group projects. With capacities ranging from 8-12 seats, each room contains a conference table, plasma display screen, and dimmable lights.
Students are allowed to reserve one room for a maximum of three hours per day. Students who use team rooms are responsible for discarding trash and returning room to an orderly state. Reservations have priority over walk-ins. Students are encouraged to bring proof of their room reservation in order to secure their room.
The Distinguished Leaders Lecture Hall, also known as the Auditorium, seats 300 students and guests for classes, conferences, guest lecturers, and student symposia. The Auditorium is equipped with a computer, microphone, podium, dimmable lights, and the latest audio-visual technologies.
Located directly outside the Auditorium is a small lobby area that can be used for event registration and small gatherings.
Located on the ground floor of the Rotunda is a 3,500 square-foot communal area is used for studying, meals, and group meetings. The Rotunda Commons is also used to engage students and the campus community by allowing a venue for guest speakers, alumni functions, and other events.
The Rotunda Commons’ standard set-up includes 24 tables with 4 chairs each. This space is available for students and the campus community to use on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also a stationary five-computer and printer station that can be used by anyone with a PAWS ID. Additional tables, chairs, and computer stations are located on the second and third floors of the Rotunda.
The Rotunda Commons can be converted to an event space for speakers, banquets, information fairs, receptions, and more. See the Event Services page for more information on holding an event in the BEC Rotunda.
Other Public Spaces in the BEC
In addition to the Commons, the Rotunda contains many other spaces that enhance the educational experience of students. These spaces include:
The Dining Room is a small room located directly off the Rotunda Commons area. It is equipped with eight round tables with six chairs each, a fixed podium, desktop computer, projector, Blu-ray player, speakers, and VGA or HDMI connections. It is typically used for small lunches or dinners but can also be cleared of furniture for small receptions.
A warming kitchen is available on the first floor of the Rotunda. It is equipped with two commercial warming ovens, a commercial coffee brewer, stainless steel counters and sink, a commercial ice maker, and two commercial sizes refrigerators. The kitchen can be reserved for approved caterer food prep and storage. Additional kitchen use guidelines can be found in the Event Services section.
Conference and Interview Rooms
The BEC has nine small conference rooms and three interview rooms. These are perfect for small group meetings, recruiter interviews, and conference breakout sessions.
Virginia’s Courtyard is the green space in the center of the Business Education Complex. It serves as a recreational space for students to meet, study, rest, and travel between classes. The Courtyard is not available to rent and is reserved for E. J. Ourso College of Business sanctioned events only.
