Red Stick Roux LSU
LSU’s Office of Human Resource Management, with support from the Office of Academic Affairs, hosted its annual Red Stick Roux event for new faculty and staff by giving them a taste of Cajun cuisine and zydeco swamp tunes. The outdoor event was hosted on Saturday, September 15 at the Rural Life Museum and had over 110 attendees.
"We are delighted to welcome our new faculty and staff to not only LSU but also to the beautiful state of Louisiana,” said Dr. Mimi Singer Lee, assistant vice president of Human Resource Management. “This event gives our employees a taste of the rich heritage and culture of where they now call “home”.
Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Stacia Haynie and Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration/CFO Dr. Dan Layzell gave guests a warm LSU welcome while Chef Jay Ducote provided a creole cooking demonstration and tastings for all. The Cajun Stompers, a Cajun, swamp pop inspired local band, entertained guests and introduced them to harmonious rhythms of the accordion, fiddle and bass guitar, southern staples in Cajun music.
“We are thrilled to have such talented faculty and staff join the LSU Krewe!” said Haynie. “LSU is such an amazing institution because of the faculty, staff and students who call us home. What better way to welcome our new faculty and staff than providing a taste of the amazing culture of Louisiana.”
