Welcome
Founded in 1928, the LSU Department of Sociology is home to a tradition of excellence
in research, teaching, and service. Our faculty carry out nationally and internationally
recognized research on basic and applied social science questions. Every semester
our undergraduate teaching program serves hundreds of majors and minors, as well as
hundreds of additional students as part of our contribution to LSU’s general education
mission. We are also home to a vibrant graduate teaching program with more than 50
students, which offers the only PhD in sociology in the state of Louisiana.
Our faculty engage a broad set of scholarly interests that we invite you to explore.
