GIS Store

The GIS-Store (previously "FEMA-Store") is a 20 TB server that was set up in LSU towards hurricane related efforts in the aftermath of Katrina. It is a intended to be a clearinghouse where people can share data and their work.

Who can access the GIS-Store?

Only authorized users can access it. The access is currently restricted to LSU Researchers, FEMA and other federal/state and local agencies that are involved in various hurricane related efforts.

How to make a request for access to GIS-Store?

Please send us an email at clearinghouse@lsu.edu if you would like to have access to GIS Store. In the request email, include information about your organizational affiliation and your data needs from GIS Store. We also encourage you to let us know if you can share any data with us.

For LSU researchers, it might take about 3-4 days to grant access to GIS-Store. For non-LSU entities, as we have to make a request for a LSU sponsored account, it typically may take about 10 days or more to obtain this account to access GIS-Store and set you up.

How to access the GIS-Store?

For users in LSU campus:

If you machine is on the LSU domain already: Map your computer to \\gis-store.lsu.edu\gis (Go to windows explorer: Tools->Map Network Drive). Click here for a snapshot.

If your machine is not in the LSU domain, under "connect using a different user name", type LSU\yourid and your password and then map your computer to \\gis-store.lsu.edu\gis. Click here for a snapshot.

For users outside LSU campus:

You will need to first connect to the LSU network via a VPN client.You will be required to enter your user name and password for authentication.Please supply the username in the form of lsu\username if you are an PAWS account holder or a CADGIS-username if you are an sponsored acount user.Download the VPN client here and install. Instructions are provided in the pdf document. The VPN client is self configured on install.

Start the VPN client and click on the "Connect" button. Use the LSU Id for login information when it prompts.

Now go to your windows explorer and map your machine to \\gis-store.lsu.edu\gis. Under "connect using a different user name", type LSU\yourid and the password and then map to your computer to \\gis-store.lsu.edu\gis. Click here for a snapshot.
